Access to Justice

Disability is the most common ground for human rights complaints in Canada.

(Canadian Human Rights Commission, 2022)

Yet every year, thousands of people with disabilities in Ottawa still face legal challenges in housing, employment, and human rights, without knowing where to start or who to ask.

Through ABLE2’s Reach Legal Referral & Education Services, people with disabilities are connected to volunteer legal professionals who understand the unique challenges they face—giving them the knowledge to understand their rights, clarity on their options, and a path forward.

Donate today to empower people with disabilities to assert their rights and access the justice they deserve.

Knowing your rights can change everything.

When people understand their rights, they are better equipped to advocate for themselves, make informed decisions, and address barriers before they become crises.

Rather than navigating complex legal systems alone, ABLE2’s Reach Legal Referral & Education Services connects individuals and families with legal professionals who understand disability-related issues and can provide guidance on matters such as human rights and discrimination, workplace accommodations, housing and tenancy, disability benefits, guardianship and decision-making, education and accessibility rights, and access to services and supports.

“Thank you for offering this service— it takes a large burden off our shoulders, and it greatly decreases the barriers to accessing the legal system. Thanks to the meeting through Reach, I now have certainty about the options available to me, and confidence that I received unbiased guidance.”

“I owe Reach my testimony of thanks for advocating for me over the years. I was connected with an Ottawa lawyer, who treated me with great respect and made me aware that I had legal rights. At the beginning of these legal travails, I had to ask myself, ‘Who can help me?’ As on my own, I didn’t have the knowledge, clarity, focus, strength or knowledge to move out of the mire.”

“What I value most about my relationship with Reach, is that they indeed care for individuals like me, they listen and act accordingly, after this, I went back a second time for another issue and again, I was helped. Thank you so much for your assistance and the great work you do helping people with disabilities.”

No matter the amount, every gift helps make access to justice more accessible for people with disabilities in our community.

Help keep access to justice within reach

By December 31, 2026, we need to raise $40,000 to ensure ABLE2’s Reach Legal Referral & Education Services can continue supporting people with disabilities throughout 2027.

Behind that goal are real individuals and families seeking answers, guidance, and trusted support as they navigate complex legal challenges that affect their rights, independence, and quality of life.

ABLE2’s Reach Legal Referral & Education Services is often a place many turn to when they don’t know where else to start.

Without community support, fewer people will have access to the legal information, referrals, and resources they need to advocate for themselves and move forward with confidence.
