Student Legal Volunteer with the Reach Legal Referral Services Program

ABLE2’s Reach Legal Referral Services team of legal student volunteers handles all client referral requests submitted online or by phone. The student volunteers determine that a referral to a legal professional on our Roster is the best course of action for a client. They also ensure the referral is well-suited to the legal professional’s area of expertise, and they provide a summary of the matter. They work with legal professionals to ensure they have the capacity to accept the referral before providing the contact information of the professional to the client, allowing them to connect directly with the legal professional. Students can also support legal education and research projects throughout their volunteering experience.

All volunteers receive online training on topics like inclusion, accessibility, and understanding your rights. Please send your completion certificates to our Volunteer Coordinator. You will be sent a link, username, and password to complete the following training sessions:

  • AODA Customer Service Training (condensed content) (32 minutes)
  • Understanding Human Rights (AODA Edition) (28 minutes)
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) (20-30 minutes each x 3 sessions)

You’ll have access to ongoing support from our dedicated staff, and you’ll receive training specific to your new role. This training can include customer service for use on referral lines, tech training for our platforms, and resources for navigating community legal supports.

STEP 3 – MAKE AN IMPACT
